We found this batch on the last night at a DOC park. Not allowed to tent so we just slept on the verandah. It rained hard that night but we stayed dry.
Chilling on the beach in the sun

Squatters

Kayaking into a cave

Our 2nd camp, Merle meet us there with food etc and gave us all a much needed massage.
We had paddled for 6 1/2 hours into a head wind.

Our lunch stop after paddling for 4 hrs into a head wind. When we left from here the wind had gone up to about 20 knots and the waves were that big that the other kayak and flag disappeared behind the waves. We had to abort the plan to go to Russell as wind wasn't being kind
Early morning start on second day

1st camp

The first few strokes of many

Our attempt to kayak to Russell from Mellons Bay, 250 km
Ready to go on the 1st day

The alpine lakes at the top on a perfect day

Amazing colours
This is what happens when you take a car that has no spare wheel and jack on gravel roads. you have borrow a jack, then take off the wheel, lower it down onto some rocks and then hitch a ride out to the nearest town. Then wait over night to get a new tyre then hitch a ride back to the car. We are in the Molesworth station South Island
